What we do
The Forum was established in 2003 and, since that date, those involved have indicated the need for the Forum to provide a sounding board and support for local older people in their efforts to find solutions to their issues, such as maximising income, accessing flexible transport and social/leisure activities.
The Forum also provides good quality information on subjects such as health, social care and personal safety through speakers at the Forum's monthly meetings.
Activities the Forum is involved in include
- lobbying for the rights of older people on a local, regional and national basis;
- providing high quality social opportunities for our memership, enabling them to visit places, meet other people and form friendships;
- providing a clear voice for older people on issues affecting them;
- advocating the advancement of older people in Blackburn, Darwen and the immediate district;
- disseminating information to our members. This includes production and distribution of our quarterly newsletter.
We have
- successfully lobbied for affordable transport for older people and those with disabilities;
- influenced local government on taxi vouchers;
- provided many and varied opportunities for our members to fraternise and socialise.
